When you draw an analogy between two things, you compare them for the purpose of explanation.
1) Government and Law. "Government can not be without a law".
2) Apology and Excuse. "Never ruin the apology with an excuse".
3) Advertisement and reality. "The advertising industry efforts to make things appear bigger and better."
